Applications are now invited for the position of Sub-master for 2019.
This position will give you invaluable experience in pastoral care and leadership, and will significantly strengthen your CV.
It involves working up to 17 hours a week (34 hours a fortnight) and being part of a dynamic team of 10 Sub-masters under the direction of the Deputy Master.
You will be required to work (on average) a 5 1/2 hour shift once every 10 days (5:30-11pm), being a back-up to one of the other Sub-masters once every 10 days, support college events, and take a particular interest in 25 or so residents in your designated area of the college (known as a "neighbourhood").
You will not be expected to be a mental health expert, counsellor or therapist, but you will be expected to display basic pastoral and leadership skills, to show that you care, and to know when to call for support or refer to others with greater expertise and experience than your own. You will receive basic training, and you will be well supported in your role.
In addition to receiving good training and support, you will be realistically remunerated, and you will enjoy the benefits of being part of a vibrant Senior Common Room comprising Sub-masters, post-graduate residents and over 50 College Fellows (many of whom are senior academics in the University). You will find the role challenging and rewarding, and you will get to enjoy the richness of the Knox College heritage and culture.
