Change of Governance

In January 2012 the Council of Assembly of the Presbyterian Church appointed a Commission for Knox and Salmond Colleges, chaired by Dr John Kernohan which has now fulfilled its duties. From 1 April 2015 the governance of the Colleges has changed to The Board of Knox College & Salmond College. The Board will act as the governing body of both colleges, overseeing their welfare, business affairs, property and other concerns.
David Richardson has been appointed the Board’s inaugural Chairperson. As a former Knox resident, High School Principal and latterly the University of Otago’s Director of Student Services he has committed to ensure that Knox and Salmond Colleges continue to evolve to meet student’s needs.

Dunedin’s Knox College has a new master.

Appointment of New Master of Knox College

The Commission of Knox College and Salmond College is pleased to advise that following a comprehensive search and selection process, the Very Rev Dr Graham Redding has been appointed Master of Knox College by the Council of Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa New Zealand effective from January 12, 2015. He replaces the Rev Dr Selwyn Yeoman who resigned from the position in June this year.

Currently Principal of the Knox Centre for Ministry and Leadership for the Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa New Zealand, Dr Redding has served with distinction in a number of roles within the Church, including as its national Moderator. Prior to periods of service in parish ministry in Auckland and Wellington, he was Warden of Selwyn College in Dunedin for three years.

Through his work as Principal of the Knox Centre over the past eight years, Dr Redding has had a close association with Knox College. The Commission believes he is well suited to taking the college forward and developing it further as a highly regarded home for students attending the University of Otago. An induction service for Dr Redding will be held in late February 2015.

The search for a new Principal of the Knox Centre for Ministry and Leadership will commence immediately.

Progress with the Earthquake Strengthening Project is right on schedule. The “days to go” calendar on the Arrow Internation office wall reads “10”, and there is a real sense of excitement.

To give the Great Hall extra capacity for full college meals, a wide door has been built between the Great Hall and the Junior Common Room. The photos below show how the door looked on 17 December 2012 and again on 11 January 2013.
